How much in Covid-19 grants have reached businesses in Wales

The grants are being administered on behalf of the Welsh Government by local authorities

Some £280m in grants have reached businesses across Wales battling with the devastating impact on trading from the Covid-19 pandemic.

As part of a £1.7bn support package from the Welsh Government grants of £10,000 and £25,000, depending on the rateable value of trading properties, are on offer.

As in England the grants of £25,000 are being made available for retail, leisure and hospitality businesses occupying properties with rateable values of between £12,001 and £51,000.

It is estimated that there are up to 8,500 eligible properties in Wales. If all drawn down the total support package would be around £212m.

A £10,000 grant is also being made available to all businesses, eligible for small business rates relief, with rateable values of £12,000 or less. It is estimated that there are up to 63,500 eligible properties in Wales.

If all drawn down it would represent a total support package of around £635m.

The Welsh Government in an update said as of April 9th some £288m in grants had been distributed, via the 22 local authorities in Wales, to 22,500 firms. Based on the total number of eligible businesses, the take up of grants is now at around 33%.
