The Humber鈥檚 carbon capture and storage solutions could help the region look after the rest of the 海角视频 when it comes to reaching Net Zero.
Further details have emerged on the South Bank strand of the huge emission abatement work focused on the refining cluster.
As reported, two schemes are with BEIS at present - with decisions anticipated imminently - one headed by Equinor and Drax and another from Vitol and Phillips 66.
They are part of a competition carrying hundreds of millions of pounds and promising thousands of jobs that will help Britain's industrial might close in on Net Zero.
The latter could bring Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal back into operation - reversing decades of flow and sending CO2 from land to beneath the seabed.
Katie Hedges is leading work on the 鈥渁mbitious鈥 industrial cluster plan at Catch alongside the Humber LEP, and she outlined the potential it offers for 海角视频 Plc.
The organisation has won significant funding to map out the route to Net Zero.
North Sea oil and gas specialist Chrysaor has applied for a licence to store CO2 as the Humber Refinery and its power supplier work on the capture element.
The exploration and production firm is working on what it calls 鈥榁 Net Zero鈥 transporting and storing in assets taken over from ConocoPhillips鈥 upstream arm, following production ending back in 2018.

Refining, followed by steel, is the largest contributor to the carbon intensity of the region - making the transformation the greatest opportunity.
Addressing Marketing Humber鈥檚 new investor platform launch, Ms Hedges said: 鈥淭his is an ambitious programme that could actually capture up to eight million tonnes of CO2 a year.
鈥淭here is a lovely cluster of CO2 stores off the East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coasts.
鈥淭heddlethorpe Gas Terminal has been decommissioned as a gas reception facility, however the offshore pipelines are still in place and still useable, and so Chrysaor has considered changing operation to CO2 storage facility.
鈥淭hey have a number of opportunities to look into, and it is a fantastic opportunity for the Humber to have a second offshore storage route for our emissions. We are the largest industrial cluster in the 海角视频, and having the possibility of two routes to store is an advantage for us.
鈥淚f we think of those industrial clusters to the south - particularly Wales and Southampton - they don鈥檛 have natural offshore storage and for them a shipping route for CO2 is the only option.
鈥淭here is potential over time to see CO2 shipped into the Humber for storage in both our locations. The Humber is not only looking after itself, but the rest of the 海角视频.鈥
