New plans to extend the tram network to the south of Birmingham city centre have certainly prompted plenty of debate.

The Post has been inundated with feedback from readers that a public consultation has been launched to garner views on two possible routes.

We've trawled our photo archives and discovered a little gem (above) showing how trams used to look the last time they ran through while the gallery below has CGIs and maps of the proposed new tram development.

would take in the planned new railway station in Curzon Street, and Digbeth, connecting this historic part of the city centre with core areas such as Bullring and New Street station.           

The routes have been drawn up by transport authority and but the trams would not be running until 2023, three years prior to the planned opening of the HS2 terminal.
