A housebuilder has pledged to deliver 2,000 homes in the South West over the next five years.

Allison Homes South West, which operates from a regional head office on the outskirts of Tiverton in Devon, said 600 of the homes would be classified as affordable housing.

The company has completed just under 300 homes across seven developments in Devon and Somerset, and it now has plans to build at nearly 15 new sites across the region in the next two years.

Its active projects are The Orchard in Langport and Buttercross Meadow in Somerton - both in Somerset - and High Moor View in Winkleigh, Devon. In total, the three developments are set to provide 95 new homes.

It added that a further two Devon developments providing a combined 93 properties - Foxglove View in Buckland Brewer and Weavers Place in North Tawton - were also “coming soon”.

Allison Homes South West said other developments were currently in the planning and acquisition stages, including sites in north, east and mid-Devon, Torridge and Teignbridge, as well as various Somerset local authority areas.

Managing director Matthew Bennett said: “Throughout the pandemic, the South West market has seen an incredible increase in demand from buyers seeking the excellent lifestyle on offer. The lack of housing stock supply has further fuelled this demand, and a high proportion of sales being taken are from relocators or second-home buyers, as the focus has shifted more towards home and family life.

“The swing towards home working seems here to stay, but equally the South West is well connected via the road and rail network, allowing for easy commuting and a better work/life balance.”
