Green jet fuel developer Velocys has welcomed the aviation industry鈥檚 push for sustainable aviation fuels in Europe.

The Clean Skies for Tomorrow initiative, a coalition of leading airlines, airports, manufacturers and fuel providers, has put forward a new joint policy proposal.

It aims to accelerate the deployment of sustainable aviation fuels across the continent.

A package of policies is being recommended by the group, which is working together to find solutions to reach net zero emissions from global aviation by mid-century.

Clean Skies Tomorrow calls on support for innovation to bring such fuels to market, support for guaranteed price floors in early stage deployment and a de-risking of investment in the first wave of production facilities.

Velocys is behind the first commercial scale development in Europe, Altalto Immingham on the South Humber Bank. The fully consented scheme is in final engineering design and financing mode, having been signed off by planners in May.

Chief executive Henrik Wareborn said: 鈥淭he analysis of the Clean Skies for Tomorrow initiative shows a robust, realistic path to net zero aviation, mainly through sustainable aviation fuels.

鈥淰elocys鈥 Altalto Immingham waste-to-jet-fuel project, the first of its kind in the 海角视频 and Europe, offers a SAF supply solution that is ready now and an example for future projects. 鈥淏ut this vital industry can only develop with the policy support advocated by the CST.鈥

The policy proposal has been backed by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the Energy Transitions Commission.

Velocys, a member of the initiative, is also part of the recently-created Jet Zero Council task force in the 海角视频, and is pushing for a 拢500 million package as part of the green recovery. The development from the Oxford University spin-out meets US tech merger firm has been flagged by Transport Secretary Grant Schapps and Business Secretary Alok Sharma as an exemplar project.

It comes after the Humber was highlighted as a prime location for a sustainable aviation fuel cluster by energy consultancy E4Tech, with an annual 拢219 million boost the economy highlighted, with 1,500 jobs created.

Altalto - backed by British Airways and Shell - is an scalable 拢350 million investment, with up to 100 direct jobs to be created, and hundreds in construction.

A site at Stallingborough, close to the Humber refining cluster, has been secured.聽
