Greater Manchester had largest service export value of outside London in 2017.

The joint authority's international service exports were valued at £8.2bn, behind inner London at £97bn and outer London at £19.5bn.

The figures are based on data published this week by the Office of National Statistics, which valued international service exports for the º£½ÇÊÓƵ as a whole at £278.6bn in 2017.

The data showed 15 joint authorities - seven English Combined Authorities, the Sheffield City Region, Inner and Outer London, and three Scottish and two Welsh City Deals - contributed more than 60 per cent, or £171.8bn, of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s service exports.

Figures showed 30.8 per cent of Greater Manchester's service exports came from financial and insurance activities, its largest industry.

The larger north-west region was one of five where service exports were between 10 and 15 percent of its gross value added (GVA), alongside the north east, east of England, south west and Wales.

Service exports in the West Midlands, Yorkshire and The Humber, East Midlands and Northern Ireland were estimated at less than 10 per cent of their respective GVA.

Service exports for the º£½ÇÊÓƵ as a whole were about 15 per cent, as a percentage of GVA, the ONS said.
