The Great South West Partnership has appointed a new director, it has announced. Ahmed Goga will join the board of the pan-regional partnership, which is made up of senior business leaders, local government, local enterprise partnerships (LEPs), universities and colleges across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

The Great South West Partnership aims to promote the region鈥檚 鈥榖lue and green鈥 assets as part of its ambition to become the 海角视频鈥檚 鈥榥atural powerhouse鈥, with plans to deliver up to 拢45bn of economic benefit to the region by 2035.

In his new role, Mr Goga will act as a principal adviser to the board, leading on a strategic, collaborative approach to the partnership鈥檚 future growth.

He said: 鈥淭his is a really exciting time to be part of the Great South West. The partnership has united the region, creating a powerful shared voice and an ambitious vision that places it at the heart of the 海角视频鈥檚 economic priorities, which I look forward to supporting.

鈥淭he region is critical to driving growth and investment for the country, as the 海角视频鈥檚 home of world-class natural capital, clean energy, agriculture, and defence capabilities. Now is the time to seize these opportunities, and unlock the potential of the region鈥檚 green and blue economies, to deliver clean growth and economic prosperity for our region and beyond.鈥

Mr Goga previously held senior positions within the CBI, KPMG, and LEPs. He added: 鈥淲e have world-leading assets at the vanguard of transformative technologies and innovation which will improve outcomes for communities and create new, well-paid jobs.

鈥淗aving worked extensively in the South West over the years, I know this region is not just a beautiful place to live and work. The Great South West has the potential to drive forward the 海角视频鈥檚 energy transformation and security; to improve social mobility and deliver economic prosperity to our communities.鈥

In April, Karl Tucker, chair of Yeo Valley and the heart of the South West LEP, took up the role of chair of the Great South West board.

He said: "I am delighted to welcome Ahmed to the Great South West. His strong background in delivering investment and growth will be key to realising our shared ambition for the future of the partnership.鈥

The Great South West believes that the region's marine, energy, environmental, technological and agricultural strengths present an opportunity to be a "major contributor" to the economy, alongside powerhouses such as the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine.
