Global business and IT consulting firm CGI has opened a new office in Liverpool, creating 70 jobs for the city.

The new office in South Edward Pavilion in Albert Dock is part of the firm's investment plans for northern England, which currently see the North West as a key target.

The new base will host 70 CGI 'members', and the firm held a grand opening event on Tuesday.

It follows the firm launching its Manchester office back in March, and Tara McGeehan, president of CGI’s º£½ÇÊÓƵ and Australia Operations, said: “Opening a Liverpool office is part of our bigger plan to drive growth and investment in northern England and the North West in particular, following the opening of our office in Salford earlier this year.

“The North West and the Liverpool region is home to many talented individuals and we are excited about the potential of welcoming them to the CGI team.”

Paul Cherpeau, Chief Executive of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, Paul Buxton, Vice President of Consulting Services at CGI, Michael Herron, Vice President of Central Government at CGI and Gary Millar, Deputy Mayor of Liverpool

The opening was attended by Michael Herron Vice President of CGI's Central Government section, and representatives from local organisations including the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, of which CGI is now a partner.

According to CGI, many of the 70 members at the Liverpool office will support the Government's Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) with its IT services.

Gary Blanchard from the DBS said: "We are pleased to be working with CGI who will be providing important IT services to support our safeguarding function.
