A German waste to energy firm wants to build a renewable centre that would run on local feedstock - including wind turbine blades - that would otherwise go to landfill.

Caulmert consulting engineers has submitted a pre-application on behelf of Wersa AG for the new plant next to Warwick Chemicals at Mostyn, Flintshire.

The project comprises the installation of three pyrolysis units and associated development, including the erection of a storage hall, productions hall, shredder and exhaust flues.

It would create around 30 local jobs and help prevent waste going to landfill.

The plant would utilise non-hazardous commercial and industrial waste, including household cables, cable insulation, wind turbine blades and non-recyclable plastic.

The pyrolysis process would generate syngas and heat. The syngas would be used in gas engines to generate electricity.

Wersa AG said: “Up to 30 new jobs might be created with the renewable energy project, strengthening the local economy

“We are using local feedstock that would otherwise go to landfill.
