The former Valentino's restaurant site has been proposed as a compound site for Bournemouth Pier repairs.

BCP Council has submitted a planning application for the former Valentino's location at Winter Gardens in Exeter Road outlining proposals to establish a temporary site compound in the vicinity.

The compound facility will support the Bournemouth Pier structural repair works and is expected to operate for up to 24 months from January 2026 through December 2027.

The location will house welfare amenities, contractor storage zones, and containers offering meeting spaces and office facilities.

The proposals state: "The contractor will determine the layout they need within the site provided but some areas may be double stacked containers."

In September, the council revealed it would be extending the tendering process for the restoration works that were originally scheduled to commence in winter 2024.

The works are designed to provide the pier with an additional 25-year lifespan and encompasses concrete repairs, installation of impressed current cathodic protection system (a method to prevent corrosion) and removal of timber landing stages.

Despite the delayed works, there has been no impact on the funding arrangements and the original levelling up funding continues to be utilised for this project.

The previous government allocated the Levelling Up funding for a range of seafront projects, with BCP receiving £19.9m as part of this allocation.
