Glamorgan County Cricket Club has appointed a new head of commercial. Edward Rice takes over from Huw Warren, who left the role in July.

Mr Rice will begin his new role in January moving from his role as partnerships manager at Liverpool Football Club to assume responsibility for the commercial operations of Glamorgan Cricket.

Originally from Newport, Mr Rice has a strong commercial background in sport having spent time in senior management positions at the Welsh Rugby Union and Liverpool Football Club.

He joined the Welsh Rugby Union as a senior partnership account manager before moving to Liverpool Football Club in 2017. Glamorgan Cricket said his knowledge and experience working in the current sports market set him apart as the outstanding candidate for the head of commercial role.

Chief executive Hugh Morris said: “We are delighted to welcome Ed to Glamorgan Cricket at such an exciting time for the Club. As we emerge from the COVID pandemic, Ed’s focus will be to maximise attendances for our High-Profile Matches and domestic competitions at Sophia Gardens and he has a great opportunity to grow the profile and interest in the game of cricket in Wales.

"Ed has a proven track record of delivering commercial success at two major sporting bodies and I am confident he will enjoy the same levels of success in cricket. We are looking forward to welcoming him to the Club in the New Year."
