Former First Minister Mark Drakeford has taken up a new professorial role at Cardiff University. Mr Drakeford, who stood down as First Minister earlier this year, has been conferred the title honorary distinguished professor at the university鈥檚 Wales Governance Centre.
The university said the five year non remunerated role is in recognition of Mr Drakeford鈥檚 contribution to Welsh politics, following a distinguished academic career.
Since standing down as First Minister, Mr Drakeford has made a return to frontline politics, firstly as interim Cabinet Secretary for Health in Eluned Morgan鈥檚 administration, before being appointed Cabinet Secretary for Finance in the First Minister鈥檚 cabinet reshuffle last month.

A spokesperson for the university said of Mr Drakeford鈥檚 honorary professorship: 鈥淚t was originally envisaged that it would include some lecturing on our undergraduate programme(s), however, since being reappointed to the Welsh Government he will no longer be undertaking teaching duties whilst he remains in cabinet.
鈥淗owever, it is envisaged that he will deliver some talks to our students (both undergraduates and postgraduates) this academic year where he will share some of his unique experiences of the policy making process.鈥
Established in 1999 with the advent of devolution, the Wales Governance Centre is sponsored and supported by the university's School of Law and Politics. It undertakes research into all aspects of law, politics, government and the political economy of Wales, as well as the wider 海角视频 and European contexts of territorial governance.
