The Premier League and EFL confirmed that they were postponing matches scheduled for this weekend.

The Premier League said in a statement: 鈥淎t a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend鈥檚 Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening鈥檚 game.鈥

The league鈥檚 chief executive Richard Masters said: 鈥淲e and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty鈥檚 long and unwavering service to our country. As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication.

鈥淭his is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing.鈥

The league said further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course.

The EFL鈥檚 statement read: 鈥淔urther to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from September 9 and 10 will be postponed as a mark of respect by the national sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

鈥淭his is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.

鈥淔urther information, in respect of how football, clubs and their supporters will commemorate Her Majesty鈥檚 reign will be confirmed at an appropriate point.

鈥淒etails regarding rearranged games will be announced in due course.鈥

Matches in the National League have also been postponed.

鈥淔irstly, the National League sends sincere condolences of all Member Clubs on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to His Majesty King Charles III and the further Royal Family,鈥 a league statement read.

鈥淔urther to this morning鈥檚 statement by Debbie Hewitt, chair of The Football Association, all National League System, FA Trophy, and grassroots fixtures scheduled for this weekend will not take place as a mark of respect. The Queen was the FA鈥檚 patron, and Prince William is its President.

鈥淎t this moment National League fixtures will go ahead as planned from Monday September 12 onwards although we understand no sporting event of any kind will be permitted on the day of The Queen鈥檚 funeral.

鈥淭he decision to postpone this weekend鈥檚 fixtures is taken in line with guidance from the FA in consultation with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The League fully supports this stance.鈥

The FA later released its own statement which confirmed the Barclays Women鈥檚 Super League, Women鈥檚 Championship and Women鈥檚 FA Cup fixtures scheduled for the weekend had been postponed.

The weekend鈥檚 Scottish football fixture card has also been postponed.

A statement from the football authorities read: 鈥淔ollowing meetings this morning, the Scottish FA, Scottish Professional Football League, Scottish Women鈥檚 Premier League, and Scottish Highland and Lowland Football Leagues have agreed that all professional football matches will be postponed this weekend as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

鈥淭his postponement will also incorporate the Women鈥檚 Scottish Cup fixtures this weekend.鈥

SFA president Rod Petrie added: 鈥淲e spoke with our counterparts across the 海角视频 this morning and in discussions with our colleagues across the professional game in Scotland it was agreed that this was the appropriate step to take following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.鈥

FA chair Debbie Hewitt told the PA news agency: 鈥淭his is a great example of football working in unity. We all absolutely 100 per cent agree this was the right thing to do to pay our respects.鈥
