Film captures 'ghost town' Welsh seafront as Covid lockdown impacts seaside resort

Welsh Government local lockdown has had a devastating impact on Llandudno

A video shot on Llandudno's seafront on Saturday morning has laid bare the impact of local lockdowns on the resort's tourism economy.

New lockdown rules have been imposed on Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy and Wrexham following a rise in Covid cases.

It means no one can enter or leave each county without a reasonable excuse and different households can't meet indoors.

This has destroyed the visitor economy - which has hit towns like Llandudno particularly hard - with hotel bookings and restaurant meals cancelled.

On Saturday morning resident Phillip Ashe filmed the town's seafront - which would normally be busy with guests parked up outside the famous stretch of hotels.

But with visitors unable to travel into Llandudno to stay the promenade is instead a 'ghost town'.

Mr Ashe said: “This is from half nine on a Saturday morning in Llandudno.

"There is no way these hotels will survive if this goes on for more than two weeks and let alone the bars, restaurants, coffee shops, gift shops.
