Investors are wanted for a Snowdonia hydropower project being developed by a Welsh farming family.

The project within the Snowdonia National Park is a high head run of river scheme with a potential installed capacity of in excess of 500kW.

The current owners have already secured an abstraction and impoundment licence through the regulator Natural Resources Wales (NRW) but need further investment to take it to the next stage.

The scheme is now being marketed by Baileys and Partners who described as an “exciting opportunity”.

Director Edmund Bailey said he had already received a high level of interest just days after advertising the scheme.

He said this had come from hydro investors and developers as well as community ventures - but he also expects heavy industry may see this as a way of off-setting their carbon use.

He added: “Whilst the Feed in Tariff (FiT) support mechanism is not available for this scheme, we envisage the motivations to invest coming from those who are ambitiously trying to meet net zero carbon emissions whilst also considering their corporate reputation and corporate social responsibility and governance.
