A charity that is creating a network or retirement villages in Birmingham is hosting an international conference that will focus on providing housing care in later life.

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust is holding the inaugural Ageing-in-Place º£½ÇÊÓƵ 2013 conference in the city from September 25-27 at its new Hagley Road Village.

Delegates will have the opportunity of touring the new state-of-the-art village before it opens its doors next month.

The conference will focus on enabling older adults to live affordably in their own homes, with support services that allow them to live independently.

The event will bring 120 senior level decision makers from international and local private, public and not-for-profit sectors together to identify collaboration and investment opportunities that aim to change the future of ageing in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ through affordable housing and in-home care models.

The event aims to increase opportunities for cross industry and international collaborations in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, bring Government, business and charities together to create affordable ageing solutions for the º£½ÇÊÓƵ - as well as showcase international innovative ageing-in-place models and services for older people.

ExtraCare’s chief executive Nick Abbey said: “This conference is coming at exactly the right time in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

“For too long there has been very little recognition of the role that high quality housing with care can play in later life and its beneficial effects on health and well-being.
