Lancaster city councillors have been told that the Eden Project in Morecambe remains a 'still viable scheme', with ongoing progress on design work.

The report coincides with Eden's appointment of a Morecambe project director ahead of the next consultation event scheduled to take place at Morecambe Football Club.

This update comes as Lancaster City Council's budget and performance panel prepares to review several major projects, including the Eden Project, at a meeting set for June 4.

Slated for construction along the promenade on the site of the old Bubbles leisure complex, Eden Project Morecambe is a collaborative effort involving Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, and Lancaster University, with an anticipated opening in 2028.

Councillors have been informed that the project is currently in the detailed design phase, with the report noting: "Work has been progressing on the new design-to-cost programme. Modelling shows the project is still viable."

The forthcoming community consultation for the Eden Project is scheduled for Monday, June 9, at 6pm at Morecambe Football Club, where John Pye, the newly appointed project director, is expected to be present.

The project leadership has also engaged an external design team led by WSP consultants and architectural firm Grimshaw, with WSP having previously assisted the Eden Project Morecambe in areas such as planning, highways, and environmental matters.

Grimshaw was at the helm of the design for the original Eden Project in Cornwall and has collaborated with Eden Project Morecambe in previous stages of the development.
