TransPennine Express has launched direct train services between Liverpool Lime Street and Glasgow.

The northern rail provider said services had begun on December 15, running three times a day and meaning that passengers travelling between Merseyside and Scotland no longer need to change at Preston or Wigan.

The service takes around three and a half hours, with stopping points varying depending on time of day. Other stations along the route include Central, Wigan North Western, Preston and Lancaster.
