A Derbyshire construction giant is set to start building work on a new £42 million sports village.

Work on the Moorways Sports Village, in Derby, began in November last year and now Bowmer and Kirkland, which is headquartered at Heage, will begin construction work in the coming weeks.

It is carrying out the build on behalf of Derby City Council and once complete, it will feature a new 50-metre swimming pool and water park.

It will also feature a learner pool, as well as soft play alongside a comprehensive health and fitness offer.

Bowmer and Kirkland has experience of delivering major projects for the city council, including Derby Arena, a multi-purpose events venue next to Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, which has its own velodrome.

Steve Chambers, regional director at Bowmer and Kirkland, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this contract to build Moorways Sports Village.

“After forging an excellent relationship with the council during our construction of Derby Arena, we are looking forward to working with them for the construction of this exciting new addition to the leisure facilities in the city.”
