Dear Prime Minister,
For three days in early November, the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s energy spotlight will be fixed firmly on Hull and the Humber.
The city is to play host to the Energy & Clean Growth in the Northern Powerhouse conference – a collaboration of the some of the biggest hitters in the sector.
Expect big-name speakers, industry leaders and pioneers to showcase the technology which will shape the future of energy across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.
For the Humber region, dubbed the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s ‘Energy Estuary,’ it is an unrivalled opportunity to showcase its world-leading renewable energy sector.
The region’s offshore wind farms - Hornsea Project One, Race Bank and Humber Gateway to name but a few – will play a central role in hitting the 75GW of clean electricity targeted by the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government by 2050.
But it’s not just offshore wind which has attracted headlines in the Humber.
From solar power and biomass, to the potential of a carbon capture and hydrogen pipeline running through East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire, the Humber is well-placed to be at the forefront of decarbonisation.

It is for this reason, that Business Live – the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s new national B2B site – urges you to visit the Humber during the three-day energy conference.
We have in the Humber a cluster of some of the world’s biggest renewables businesses – Siemens Gamesa and Orsted to name two on either side of the estuary – and a supply chain of SMEs which could scarcely have been believed a decade ago.
The energy conference in November however, is about so much more than the Humber.
Organised by the Humber LEP on behalf of the NP11, it will stand to highlight the central role the Northern Powerhouse must play in meeting the Government’s ambitious 2050 net-zero carbon ambitions.
Henri Murison, director at the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, said himself: “Energy is one of the key drivers of the northern economy. In the coming decades it will be a major source of jobs and growth in the Northern Powerhouse, unlocking significant productivity improvements if government back us and what we can offer the º£½ÇÊÓƵ consumers and businesses to help achieve net zero through decarbonisation.
“This important event is a great opportunity to showcase the specific assets the Northern Powerhouse has to offer, as well as the pioneering work in decarbonising heat and transport with hydrogen, the supply chain to build small modular reactors and lead the world in decommissioning in nuclear and delivering carbon capture and storage to make heavy industrial areas overall carbon negative, making industries like steel sustainable long term.”
The Humber has been named by government as being of huge importance to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s energy ambitions.
Don’t miss
Jake Berry, our Northern Powerhouse minister, said the Humber is making “a unique contribution to our growing clean energy sector.”
And in March, the region’s offshore wind industry was hailed as “a model for the world” when the all-important sector deal was released by the Government.
We therefore call on you, the Prime Minister, to visit Hull and the Humber between November 5 and 7, to see first-hand the work that goes on in the energy sector, both across the Energy Estuary and the North of England, every day.
The eyes of the country – and in fact the world – will be on the conference.
What better time, then, to show further support for the region’s energy sector, as it plays a starring role in decarbonising the country?
Yours sincerely,
Phil Winter and Business Live
