Wirral Council is looking for developers to lead the construction of new affordable homes with views over the Mersey and Everton's new stadium.

The authority says it has already seen early interest in the site of its former office buildings, which were previously located on either side of Wallasey Town Hall. Any new homes built on these sites would boast views over the Mersey estuary as well as Everton's Hill Dickinson stadium, situated on the former Bramley Moore dock in Liverpool.

The proposal for new homes on Brighton Street was unveiled as part of an approved masterplan for the area surrounding Wallasey Town Hall. This masterplan will serve as a guide for developers, outlining the type of schemes the council is seeking in the area.

This masterplan suggested four-storey buildings on both annex sites, along with an additional four-storey development to the east. This could pave the way for 149 homes, and a visualisation released by the council gives an idea of what the area might look like.

The buildings were torn down in 2024, and the sites were given the green light for sale in March earlier this year. The firm selected as the council's development partner will aim to construct the new homes and provide real estate services.

Previously serving as council offices until 2020, the buildings remained vacant for several years. The redevelopment and demolition of the buildings were backed by a £2.3m grant from the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government.

Marcus Shaw, Wirral Council's Director of Regeneration and Place, saidl: "These sites are among the prime locations on this side of the borough, close to the waterfront and promenade, and at the heart of the masterplan for the location surrounding the town hall so I'm not surprised we are seeing early interest in them.

"The demolition of the annexes was, I have no doubt, welcomed by everyone in the area and this is now a fantastic opportunity to bring much needed high quality and affordable housing here.
