The suits and ties more commonly associated with the Birmingham and West Midlands business community are about to be swapped for whites, as cricket teams from across the region do battle for a chance to play in the Warwickshire Taverners Trophy Final at Edgbaston stadium.
This year’s Warwickshire Taverners Trophy features 18 teams who will each play a minimum of four games at Moseley Ashfield Cricket Club’s Britannic Park ground, with four progressing to the semi-finals. The final will then be played at Edgbaston on Tuesday 24th September.
Trevor Law, organiser of the Warwickshire Taverners Trophy, said: “Edgbaston’s redevelopment has made it one of the best grounds in world cricket, and the chance to play on the same pitch as many of sport’s greatest players has proved to be a big incentive to the many amateur cricketers who work in the city.

“With the support of Edgbaston and our sponsors Investec and Keith Prowse hospitality, we’ve expanded in tournament in the last two years from 15 to 18 teams. We thank all businesses for their support and look forward to another great season of competition and raising important funds for the Lord's Taverners.”
Edgbaston hosted the final of the 10-year-old tournament for the first time last summer, with the Lord's Taverners team winning by 45 runs against the 2011 and 2010 champions, KPMG.
This year’s Final comes at the end of a packed summer at the stadium as it hosts five matches – including the final – of the ICC Champions Trophy in addition to Friends Life t20 Finals Day and a NatWest Series ODI between England and Australia.
Craig Flindall, finance director at Edgbaston, said: “Having played in the Warwickshire Taverners Trophy in my previous roles with KPMG and Ernst & Young, it’s not only great fun for everyone who takes part but a unique networking opportunity that brings together the region’s business community.
“The two teams that contest this year’s Final will play on the same square where England will have played Australia in a NatWest Series ODI just 13 days earlier, so it’s sure to be a great experience and all of the tournament’s players and supporters are invited to watch and experience our new facilities.”
