Work has started on a 40-week major Manchester road scheme.

Changes to the Mancunian Way and Princess Road roundabout junction, have been designed to improve accessibility between the city centre and south Manchester neighbourhoods for pedestrians and cyclists.

Signals will be added to the roundabout, with two new links - northbound towards Medlock Street and eastbound towards Mancunian Way East.

Work is being carried out by Colas º£½ÇÊÓƵ, which was awarded the £6m contract by the city council under Manchester’s highways & infrastructure construction works to design and build the new scheme.

A mixture of segregated pedestrian and cycle tracks and shared-use spaces are set to feature in the new scheme.

Colas º£½ÇÊÓƵ CEO Carl Fergusson said the contract wins underlines it “strategic commitment” to Manchester and the north-west region.
