Construction is set to commence on a significant new housing development in Stockport, which will see the creation of over 400 homes. The development, known as Stopford Park and previously referred to as Royal George Village, is poised to deliver 442 apartments in the heart of the town centre, located at Greek Street and Wellington Road.
This month marks the beginning of construction on Bosden, the inaugural residential building within the scheme, which will comprise 62 one and two-bedroom homes.
In addition to Bosden, work is also slated to begin on the Torkington building, contributing 122 apartments to the overall project, while a 16-storey edifice named Lyme is set to complete the development by adding another 258 apartments. The entire project is expected to reach completion by the end of 2027, with reservations for the first homes opening this spring.
The three-acre site, situated at Wellington Road and Greek Street, is being developed by Cityheart, the team behind the Stockport Interchange project. Moreover, the former Metropolitan Girls' School on Greek Street is earmarked for transformation into a 'collaborative flex workspace' designed to support local businesses, reports .
Cityheart has joined forces with Oak Construction Projects based in Stockport for the initial phase of construction. Richard Stanton from Oak Construction Projects said: "Being a Stockport-based contractor we are especially pleased to have been appointed as Cityheart's construction partner for Bosden."
"We will be working with our network of locally based subcontractors to deliver 62 much needed residential units on this high-profile site in central Stockport."
Greg Ball, Development Director at Cityheart, said: "We've been undertaking preparation work since acquiring the site last year and it is great to now appoint Oak Construction as our construction partner for Bosden.
He added, "2025 will be an exciting year as we start to see the first of these new homes come forward for sale in the heart of Stockport which has undergone such an incredible transformation in recent years."
