Housebuilder Vistry Group has acquired a site south of Bristol Airport where it plans to build more than 80 homes.

The group, which includes Bovis Homes and Linden Homes, has secured the six-acre site in the village of Langford, North Somerset for an undisclosed sum.

The firm is looking to submit a planning application for 83 three and four-bedroom houses on the land off Bath Road, located 14 miles from Bristol city centre and around a 20-minute drive to the airport.

Vistry Western’s regional land director Rachael Humphreys said the company would be undertaking public consultations on its plans for the site, which includes development of green open spaces, to ensure it builds homes that “suit the needs of the local community.”

Ms Humphreys said: “We have two other developments in North Somerset – at Barrow Gurney and Congresbury – so Langford will be a great addition. We look forward to submitting the planning application and starting work on site.”

Vistry previously bought part of the site that was once the location of a former psychiatric hospital in Barrow Gurney. Work is under way on 66 homes in the redevelopment. The site in Congresbury has outline planning permission for 50 homes.

FTSE 250 firm Vistry is one of the top five housebuilders in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ by volume.

In a trading update for the period published on Tuesday (November 9) for the period July 1 to November 8 2021, the group said it was “firmly on track” to deliver full year profit before tax for FY21 of around £345m and a target of around £225m net cash at year end.
