A large number of workers in the South West believe their company should offer them fertility treatment, including egg freezing.

Almost one in five workers in the region believe fertility benefits such as subsidised IVF should be offered by employers , according to research by risk management and advisory company Willis Towers Watson.

Concerns about restricted NHS treatment and the high cost of going to a private clinic were among the reasons workers believe companies should step in.

People also said it would reduce the time pressures of having children too quickly and demonstrate a progressive attitude from their employer.

“Increasing numbers of employers across the US are now supporting employees on their path to parenthood,” said Mike Blake, Willis Towers Watson’s wellbeing lead.

“Their counterparts in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ should consider the recruitment and retention benefits of following their lead.”

Nationally, the number of workers calling for fertility treatments from employers was highest among younger people, with 31 per cent of 18-to-34 year-olds wanting it.

The figures fell to 20 per cent for all º£½ÇÊÓƵ workers and dropped to just six per cent among workers aged over 55.
