A brace of surveyors from Birmingham have won national awards from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Sahar Rezazadeh, from was named top commercial agent while David Chatten from took home the property manager category at the inaugural RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards.

Ms Rezazadeh is a graduate surveyor who joined the retail team at Brindleyplace-based GVA from Savills in the summer.

Sally Lewis, RICS Matrics chairman and head of the judging panel for the awards, commended Ms Rezazadeh's knowledge in valuation and rounded understanding of the industry that she had gained through her experience of working in locations such as Abu Dhabi, Birmingham, Cardiff and London.

Mr Chatten, a surveyor in Colliers International's investment property management division in Birmingham, was recognised for "his enthusiasm, professionalism and creativity earned him the recognition he richly deserves".

He joined the agency, also based in Brindleyplace, as a graduate surveyor in 2012, and has previously worked on the Minerva Works in Warwick Bar, promoting landlord and tenant relationships and undertaking property maintenance.

He said: "I'm proud to have been recognised by my peers through this award and look forward to continuing to develop professionally during my time at Colliers International."

Director of the division at Colliers Martyn Edwards added: "David is undoubtedly a credit to the team and this has been demonstrated in his proactive approach to property management. We would like to congratulate him on this fantastic achievement."

In addition, Christopher Whitehouse, managing director of Cannock-based NextPhase Development, won the planner/developer category.

A total of 11 awards were handed out during the ceremony which was held at Marriott Grosvenor Square in London, and hosted by comedian Ed Byrne.

Winners were recognised for achievement in key areas including client satisfaction, collaboration, innovation and acting as an ambassador.
