Retailer Co-op  is ramping up online home delivery - launching from 50 new stores this month.

It has partnered with home delivery specialists, Zoom 1Hr Delivery, to further expand the roll-out of its own online shop, with the new sites mainly in Wales and border counties.

Items are selected by colleagues in Co-op stores in the community, which act as micro-distribution hubs locally - supporting jobs as the retailer’s high street stores benefit from online demand.

They are then delivered on behalf of Co-op by Zoom up to 4KM in as little as one hour.

Deliveries are free from new stores to offer the service for the first eight weeks.

After that prices vary from 99p to £1.99 - with a minimum basket spend of £15.

Matt Arrigonie, Co-op’s online operations manager, said: “We continue to look for new ways to innovate and expand access to our products and services to deliver a truly compelling offer for consumers."

Kevin Williams, managing director, Zoom Food, said: “These are challenging times, and more people have turned to placing orders online for quick, safe, convenient deliveries. Our experience over the last four years has seen us perfect the delivery service model in rural areas.”
