A proposal to demolish a detached 1920s house and replace it with six apartments as part of a larger development known as 'Cloud 9' in Bowdon has been put forward. The planning application is for an 'apartment home' on two plots at Bow Green Road.
This comes after approval was granted for the construction of two new semi-detached homes following the demolition of the century-old house. A design and access statement indicates that the proposal aims to 'address Trafford's acute and persistent housing supply shortfall', as well as the significant demand for 'market affordable' housing in the 'upscale' area of Bowdon, which is known for its wealthy residents, including millionaires and professional footballers.
The statement refers to a judgement by planning inspector Graham Chamberlain, who cited the housing supply shortage in Trafford as a factor in approving a development. "The apartment building has been thoughtfully designed to emulate the appearance of a traditional home...with a strong focus on overall kerb appeal," the statement read.
"Architectural elements such as pitched roofs, decorative eaves and expansive windows contribute to its residential character."
It added that the project places a strong emphasis on enhancing the local area and 'pushing the boundaries of sustainable design'. However, an anonymous objection from a resident of nearby Stanhope Road has been posted on the Trafford council planning portal, reports .
The statement read: "I feel this development is not in keeping with the surrounding houses. I also feel it will put a strain on the already traffic issues we have on Stanhope Road as well as road parking. The surrounding houses are all detached and apartments would not be in keeping for the area."
