Chinese vote Birmingham hotel as the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's best

Three-star Birmingham Holiday Inn Express, in Snow Hill, was given an average rating of 9.6 out of 10 by Chinese visitors, according to the website Booking.com

A Birmingham hotel has been chosen as the best in Britain - by Chinese tourists.

Three-star Birmingham Holiday Inn Express, in Snow Hill, was given an average rating of 9.6 out of 10 by Chinese visitors, according to the website Booking.com.

That placed the 224-room hotel above such well known establishments as five-star Old Town Chambers in Edinburgh, Bath Paradise House and the Victorian Tower Guest House, York.

Guests were impressed by the price at £49 a night, cleanliness of the rooms and the 'Express Start Breakfast'.

The survey revealed there had been a significant rise in the number of Chinese visitors to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ with a 50 per cent increase recorded in the first quarter of this year, compared the same period last year.

John Grist, º£½ÇÊÓƵ area manager of Booking.com, said: "In addition, we have seen the range of accommodations stayed in increase by almost a third. We believe this growth is just the beginning."

According to VisitBritain, the number of visitors to Britain from China has doubled in the last five years.

Earlier this year, VisitBritain launched the China Welcome campaign to "promote and develop how the º£½ÇÊÓƵ travel industry caters to the needs of Chinese visitors" and ensure "Chinese visitors to Britain get as much out of their trip as possible".
