The Local Industrial Strategy, the business environment and the future of skills topped the menu at Greater Manchester Chamber鈥檚 Annual Business Dinner.
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, talked about the new Local Industrial Strategy, which was launched earlier in the day.
The strategy aims to make Greater Manchester the聽海角视频鈥檚 leading green and digital city-region.聽
Fellow guest speaker聽Richard Carter, Managing Director 海角视频 & Ireland, BASF plc, compared the business environment in Germany with that in the 海角视频.
In her speech, Chamber President, Jane Boardman, gave an update on the Chamber鈥檚聽Future of Skills 2028 campaign.
鈥淪kills are critical to the success of every business,鈥 she said, 鈥淭hey are also something that, as both an employer and a parent, I can see changing all around me. What employers need, what the workforce wants in terms of careers, what we need the education system to deliver and what we as parents aspire for our children to achieve are all changing, and frighteningly quickly.鈥
Outlining the progress of the campaign so far, she highlighted successes including the first large scale business survey of skills completed in the last five years, meeting with policy makers at the Department of Education and the Chamber鈥檚 Skills Summit.
She added: 鈥淲hilst I鈥檓 incredibly proud of what we鈥檝e achieved so far, there is still much more to do, and I鈥檓 delighted that the campaign will be continuing even after I hand over the presidential baton in October.鈥
Stella Bowdell,聽director of membership & events at Greater Manchester Chamber, looked back over the last 12 months and reflected on some of the key activities the Chamber had been involved with, such as the unveiling of the statue of聽Emmeline Pankhurst.
During the evening, awards were presented to the winner of the聽2019 GM Arts Prize Stockport artist, James Roper, and the three runners-up, Steve Oliver, Iain Andrews and Julie Cassels.
The Annual Business Dinner was held at the Victoria Warehouse.
The host was comedian Andrew Ryan and the evening聽closed with a funk and soul DJ set聽at the after dinner party with聽Craig Charles.聽There was a collection during the dinner for the聽Official Memorial to the Manchester Attack.
