Caparo loses 323 staff across the Black Country

Administrator PwC confirms 452 job losses º£½ÇÊÓÆµ wide and the closure of plants in the West Midlands as the steel industry continues to suffer

More than 320 jobs are to be lost in the Black Country following the collapse of steel firm Caparo Industries.

The news has which said today 452 jobs would go across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ including 323 in the West Midlands.

They affected sites are Darlaston where 122 posts will go, a further 68 in Oldbury, 64 in Dudley, 59 in West Bromwich and ten in Cradley Heath.

Caparo Industries Group specialises in the forging and pressing of metal products for aerospace, automotive and other industries as well as the production of fastenings, wire, tubes and other products.

PwC said efforts were continuing to find buyers for other parts of the group which did employ around 1,700 staff, the majority of which are in the Black Country where the group has 13 companies.

Around 1,200 staff remain in employment but the Caparo Atlas Fastenings business in Darlaston and Caparo Forging Europe, in both Dudley and Hartlepool, have closed with immediate effect.

Unions said this latest announcement was another devastating blow to the steel industry which has been rocked by thousands of job losses in recent weeks following an influx of cheaper steel products onto the market from China.

PwC said: "Following a detailed review of the businesses, it is with regret that we now announce 452 redundancies with immediate effect. Those staff affected by today's announcements have been briefed.
