The trade commissioner for South Asia has urged businesses in Greater Manchester to “take advantage of India’s leadership in data”.

Crispin Simon highlighted the importance of bilateral trade between Manchester and India at the Manchester-India Business Summit celebrating the strong relationships between the two regions.

He told the M.E.N: “I think so many industries will be entirely restructured around artificial intelligence technology, so any industry in which Manchester is active, which is most industries, you could see fundamentally affected by artificial intelligence.

“I think it’s very important that Manchester, as well as every other region in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, makes use of one of the most powerful partners that there is in the world today, which is India.”

Mr Simon said he would like to see Manchester “maximise opportunities” through establishing relationships with India.

“Manchester has particular strengths associated with the BBC being here, and all the media tech that’s around that, as well as particular strengths that come from graphene.

“There’s a lot of segments of industry in which Manchester is already a leader and what I would like to see is that we just maximise those opportunities.”

He added: “I think it is crucial now that the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, in which Manchester is definitely a leader, demonstrates its commitment to wanting to do business in India.”
