Birmingham's Walk of Stars paving slabs are to be made in the city for the first time.

Jewellery Quarter-based Red Temple Fine Art Castings have won the contract to make the next three stars, honouring those who have made a significant contribution to the West Midlands.

Company owner Jim McIlgrew, 47, said the company had previously made pieces for galleries, architects and plaques for the Tony Hancock memorial on Corporation Street.

“We are proud to do anything for the city,” he said.  “We had put in a bid for the contract and got in.

“Previously a company in Leicester was making the stars. From now on we will have the stars.

“Everything you see on the stars will be cast or fabricated here on our premises.

“We will be making the letters, the stars and setting them and we will cast the aggregate around it.”

Glam rocker Noddy Holder, sports commentator Murray Walker, Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi and Paralympic golden girl Ellie Simmonds are among those honoured on the Walk of Stars, in Broad Street.
