Some of the biggest names in Humber business have reacted to Boris Johnson being announced as the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s new Prime Minister.

Mr Johnson beat rival candidate Jeremy Hunt in the final vote cast by around 160,000 Tory members on Tuesday morning.

Leading names from the Humber’s business sector have since had their say on the outcome of the leadership race, with Brexit and British Steel taking centre stage.

David Hooper, external affairs manager for Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: "He has been elected to the leadership of the Conservative Party with a strong mandate from it, but he still faces the challenge of resolving the Brexit issue.

He still has the challenge of getting it done, getting it through parliament, which still seems as divided as it always has been.

"For the Chamber, from the business perspective, we feel the Brexit crisis has to be rectified as quickly as possible because it is clearly affecting business now as results of our quarterly economic survey clearly demonstrated.

"There are still strong feelings either way on both sides of the debate, passionately held views and we need to resolve it one way or another as soon as we can for the good of the country."

Lord Haskins, chair of the Humber LEP, also commented on the result.
