University of Birmingham occupation protest continues despite injunction

Students vow to carry on protest in ongoing dispute over education changes

Aston Webb building at University of Birmingham is occupied by protesting students

Students have pledged to defy a court injunction and possible arrest by continuing a campus sit-in, as a protest at University of Birmingham entered its seventh day .

Up to 100 students remained inside the university’s Aston Webb building, which was stormed by masked protesters last Wednesday.

The protest group, , were ordered to leave on Monday after a court injunction was awarded.

The university alleged a staff member had been hurt during the demonstration and police are investigating.

In a phone call to the Post the students said they were unaware of anyone being hurt.

They are calling for equal pay for university staff and objecting to any increase in tuition fees.

One student said: “We believe our protest has been peaceful and as such we don’t believe the university has the justification to use the punitive measures they’re threatening us with.”

A 21-year-old politics student, who refused to be named, said the university was letting in food.
