The Birmingham Sports Awards will soon be upon us and it looks set to be a stellar night in the West Midlands’ sporting calendar.

The event, which takes place at Aston Villa Football Club on the evening of Thursday, September 18, is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our region’s sportspeople over the course of the last 12 months.

Organised in partnership with the events and brand agency, Champions (º£½ÇÊÓƵ) plc, it is a great opportunity for the sporting community to celebrate the very best of the West Midlands.

However, the clock is now ticking on nominations and you only have until next Friday, August 1 tell us about your local sporting favourites.

There are 13 awards in total, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, International Sportsperson of the Year, Professional Sportsman and Woman of the Year (19 years of age and above), Professional Young Sportsperson of the Year (up to the age of 18), Amateur Sportsman and Woman of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year (11-18 years of age) Junior Team of the Year (11-18 years of age), Team of the Year, Manager/Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and The Community Award.

So, have your say and make a nomination at or fill out the ‘Nominate Now’ form on the facing page. Rewarding both disabled and non-disabled sportspeople, amateurs and professionals, teams, clubs, volunteers and the region’s youngest sportspeople, the Birmingham Sports Awards are set to become an influential marker of past, present and future achievement.

This hotly anticipated series of accolades promises to expose many of those who commit time and effort to our region’s sporting culture to some well-deserved limelight.

We have had an incredible response from the public and nominations have come in thick and fast but there is still time for you to have an influence by letting us know exactly who has impressed you most and giving them the chance to enjoy some well earned recognition.
