Birmingham Harvey Nichols opening boosts city retail scene

The store opens to the public on Friday, July 31, and the Post's photographers have been in to capture it

Birmingham’s new giant is hours from opening in the latest major retail boost for the city.

As the Post reported in June, shopping in the store will be a digital experience with an ‘immersive tunnel’, ‘style concierges’ and screens as far as the eye can see.

The store opens to the public on Friday, July 31, and our photographers have been in to capture it.

Among the new features are valet parking, 360-degree mirrors which capture footage of shoppers which can even be shared on social media and a loyalty app.

The expansion to a 45,000 sq ft store will see the workforce trebled to 200.

It is also a vital cog in a retail triumverate – also including and the soon-to-open – which city leaders hope will attract more visitors.

Shadi Halliwell, group marketing and creative director at Harvey Nichols, said the group wanted the store to have a hotel feel.

She said: “Customers have told us they love going into hotels, getting rid of everything as they walk in and having it all taken care of.
