Birmingham Airport affected by French strike

Ryanair and EasyJet among those cancelling or re-routing flights as thousands of Britons have seen their plans affected by air traffic control strike

is among those affected by a strike by French air traffic controllers.

Thousands of Britons flying abroad are expected to be facing travel chaos and º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and Irish airlines have had to axe scores of flights while others are being disrupted.

Delays and cancellations are affecting not only services to and from France but also flights to other parts of Europe and the airport is advising passengers to visit its website for updates.

Ryanair cancelled 250 flights with Birmingham Airport affected alongside Luton, Leeds and Bradford among others.

The destinations on Ryanair's cancelled list include Alicante, Malaga and Marrakech.

EasyJet has cancelled 118 flights, most of which involve flights within France but the scrapped services include return flights to Paris from Gatwick, Belfast and Luton, as well as a Gatwick to Toulouse return service.

British Airways was among the other carriers that had to cancel flights while Flybe axed 16 services including flights to Paris from Birmingham, Manchester and Exeter, as well as some flights from Southampton.

EasyJet said: "We can assure our passengers we are doing everything possible to limit the inconvenience of this strike on them."
