Anglesey has awarded a new long-term waste collection and cleansing contract to Biffa.

The new eight-year contact, with an option to extend, will begin on April 1 2021 and follows an extensive tendering process.

The new contract is worth £40m over the initial eight-year period.

Biffa’s workforce have been collecting the Island’s waste and recycling since 2007.

The existing partnership arrangement between the council and Biffa has seen Anglesey become one of the best recycling counties in the United Kingdom and consistently achieve high recycling rates.

Anglesey’s Waste Management portfolio holder, Cllr Bob Parry, welcomed the new contract award.

Cllr Parry said: “This new contract will allow Anglesey to build on its long term partnership with Biffa, meet future targets and ensure further success in terms of our recycling efforts.

"I hope to see the very positive collaborative dialogue and ‘can do’ attitude that has existed between both parties continue into the new contract so that, together, we can maintain high quality services for the people of Anglesey for many more years to come.”
