It's the road that many motorists have seen far, far too much of – but BBC bosses are hoping a flagship new series isn’t a turn off.
The BBC is planning a documentary on the M6 motorway, and is desperate to speak to Midland road users for their tales of woe.
The series of four hour long films on BBC Two is aiming to covering its whole 232-mile length starting at Catthorpe Interchange up to Sandbach in Cheshire, via infamous Spaghetti Junction.

Emma Hogan, assistant producer of the show said: “This new landmark documentary series will tell the stories of the motorway’s myriad users and the hidden army of professionals and workers who care for them.
“Over four films, we’ll unpick the life of the road in compelling human detail, telling the stories of those whose lives intersect on a geographically diverse stretch of Britain’s busiest motorway.”
The producers are planning to spend time with the Highways Agency, private road repair company Amey, police and the fire and ambulance services.
Ms Hogan said: “We’ll look at the breadth and depth of their work and how they join up.
‘‘We’ll film major road-building projects, roadwork’s, traffic jams and the complex responses to RTCs. We’ll film seasonal events and winter weather – capturing the daily rhythms as well as the one-off incidents.

‘‘But around these narratives we’ll also weave the stories of the motorway’s users, and the communities and businesses living cheek by jowl with this busy road.
“In each episode we’ll spend time with people doing their own special jobs in various worlds connected by the motorway.
‘‘We’ll follow litter pickers keeping the road tidy; the communities of lorry drivers along the road and the breakdown recovery drivers who help dangerously stranded motorists to safety,’’ she added.
“As an environment that only falls silent when something is wrong, we’ll see the night-time repairs and the morning rush hour; the Christmas day workers tending the road and the special journeys as dog owners’ converge on Birmingham for Crufts or thousands of football fans make their weekly pilgrimages.”
Independent production company The Garden, which has been behind shows including Channel 4’s 24 Hours in A&E, BBC Two’s Inside Claridge’s and two series of The Midwives following busy maternity departments in Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff is making the documentary.
