Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced he will reveal "plans to continue protecting jobs through the winter" after the Government confirmed there will be no Budget before the end of the year.

Mr Sunak said on Twitter he will reveal his 'Winter Economy Plan' to Parliament on Thursday afternoon. BusinessLive will be covering his statement live - and reporting on the reaction to it.

It comes as pressure mounts on Mr Sunak and Prime Minister Boris Johnson to announce the Government's plan for the end of furlough - and what it will do next.

The landmark scheme was introduced in March to cover 80% of employees' salaries - but is set to be removed at the end of October.

There have been calls in Parliament - including from Labour and SNP - for the Government to act swiftly to prevent a "tsunami of job losses".

In France and Germany, salary top-up schemes have already been introduced, and there is speculation Mr Sunak could be about to announce a similar policy.
