Aston University to host Green Party annual conference

More than 650 delegates expected to attend four-day event at Conference Aston venue

Conference Aston, at Aston University, which will host the Green Party's autumn conference this weekend

will play host to more than 650 volunteers, supporters and members of the this weekend at the party's 2014 autumn conference.

will deliver the opening speech on Friday afternoon with the conference running until September 8.

Workshops will run throughout all four days to give members the opportunity to come together to discuss and set party policy.

This is the first time the party has chosen to host its annual conference at a residential venue and it will serve as an economic boost for both Aston University, of which host venue Conference Aston is a subsidiary, and local businesses.

Nearby pub Gosta Green is due to host an open mic night on Sunday for attendees.

Conference Aston was chosen for its green credentials as it was the first academic venue in the United Kingdom to be ISO14001 accredited.

Lucy Talbot, director at Conference Aston, said: "To get the Green Party to hold their annual conference here is not only a coup for us but also for Birmingham.

"Outside of London, this is the most popular destination for meetings and conferences and events the size of this only help to reinforce this position.
