The world's second largest nuclear engineering company with headquarters in the North West has launched a huge recruitment drive to fill hundreds of jobs on its projects.

Assystem aims to fill 400 jobs on its nuclear projects this year, which are believed to be essential in its goal of becoming net-zero in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The French firm's º£½ÇÊÓƵ headquarters are in Blackburn, Lancashire, and it said the demand for skilled workers like design engineers and project managers is being driven by the construction of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's first nuclear power plant in over 20 years, Hinkley Point C.

It said Assystem was part of a Rolls Royce-led consortium of businesses developing a new fleet of 15 compact nuclear power stations currently being designed.

Matt Gallimore, chief sales officer at Assystem, said:  “There’s never been a more exciting time for engineers at all points to consider what a career in nuclear energy can offer them, especially with Assystem, the world’s second largest nuclear engineering company with a major presence in most of the countries currently developing nuclear power today.”

As well as the consortium, Assystem said there is also a demand for jobs in the developing nuclear fusion sector in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ following investment from the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government in the STEP programme in 2019.

As a leading nuclear fusion engineering company, Assystem said it is supporting the work, as well as acting as Architect Engineer of the ITER project.
