Monorail set for North West town after futuristic plans revealed

The Heath in Runcorn, Cheshire, is set to become a 'modern-day version' of model village, Port Sunlight

Mersey town could get its own monorail

Proposals to build a new “model village” in a North West town include the construction of a monorail.

The transport infrastructure could be introduced at Heath Park in Runcorn, Cheshire , and plans were unveiled in Liverpool on Tuesday.

It’s hoped Heath Park will become a “modern-day version of Port Sunlight” - one of the world’s most famous “model villages” for workers, where they can “live, work and play”, with initial plans having been revealed last month .

As yet, not a great deal is known about how the monorail could run, but developer SOG Group’s managing director John Lewis told an event in Liverpool that the plans were “creative and realistic - not pie in the sky”.

The developers released a video showing how Heath Park may look, with the vision including driver-less cars and the futuristic monorail transporting passengers around the area.

Plans for the Heath Park, hoped to become a 'modern-day version of Port Sunlight'

Also included in plans for Heath Park, which lies in the Liverpool City Region, are hundreds of homes alongside business and community facilities.

The group’s proposals hope to transform the current Heath Business and Technical Park into a sustainable and futuristic environment much like Port Sunlight - one of the world’s most famous “model villages” for workers.
