Construction and infrastructure giant Aggregate Industries has laid its millionth tonne of material on the A14 Cambridge-to-Huntingdon Improvement Scheme.

The project鈥檚 on-site asphalt plant has also produced its 350,000th tonne of road making material along with 150,000 tonnes of asphalt trucked in from Aggregate Industries鈥 plants at Leicestershire, Peterborough and Purfleet.

It comes as newly published accounts for Aggregate Industries 海角视频 Ltd show turnover was up 2 per cent to almost 拢1.3 billion last year.

Pre-tax profits went from 拢46 million to 拢68.5 million.

The business was the fifth biggest company based in Leicestershire this year according to the annual LeicestershireLive Top 200 list.

Number one on that list this car dealer Sytner Group, followed by Barratt Developments, Next plc and Bloor Homes/Triumph Bikes.

In its annual report Aggregate Industries said the business had anticipated a small drop in overall construction output this year leading to 鈥渇lat鈥 demand for its products.

It said: 鈥淭he outlook for the sector is encouraging for the medium to long-term, with major infrastructure projects and the need for increased housing provision.

鈥淗owever the slowing economy and the uncertainty emanating from the decision to leave the European Union is expected to suppress investment in the short-term.

鈥淚n addition, it is anticipated that input costs, particularly oil-related and energy, will increase at levels well above base inflation.

鈥淗owever, we have instigated a number of initiatives aimed at reducing the overall cost base of the business.鈥

Aggregate Industries won the 拢70 million contract to provide surfacing for England鈥檚 biggest road improvement project 鈥 a 21-mile stretch of the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon last year.

Over a 30 month period, the north west Leicestershire business is supplying and laying 700,000 tonnes of asphalt and 500,000 tonnes of recycled material and cement.
