Plans for affordable homes in Frodsham have been approved, with the development set to be built on the site of former sheltered accommodation. Cheshire West and Chester Council has given the go-ahead for 12 properties on the previous site of Meadow Court in Clifton Crescent.

The independent living apartments at Meadow Court were managed by Weaver Vale Housing Trust (WVHT) but were deemed surplus to requirements and demolished in 2021, leaving the brownfield site vacant.

The new scheme will comprise four three-bedroom properties, two two-bedroom properties, and six one-bedroom apartments. The plan also includes new vehicle and pedestrian access.

Each home will come with parking spaces and private rear gardens. The apartment block will stand two stories high, with parking spaces at the rear, garden space for three ground floor apartments, and a bike/bin store serving all flats.

The new homes will be managed by WVHT and offered for affordable rent, capped at local housing allowance rates – approximately 80 % of the market rate – to aid customer affordability. A local consultation was carried out, during which concerns were raised about increased traffic, residents parking, anti-social behaviour, and the increased demand on local services.

However, there were supporting comments regarding the proposed tenure of the development and its designs.

A design and access statement submitted in support of the proposed housing scheme indicated: "The proposal offers a mix of housing types that will suit the needs of the local community, including smaller homes, family homes." It added that the development would include public realm works "which will create a distinctive development which respects its local context."

An officer's report recommending approval stated: "The proposed development is considered to be acceptable in terms of the principle of the residential dwellings in this location of Frodsham."
