Adam Munday: Christmas coming too soon?

Preparations for Christmas seem to be coming around early every year

When walking through the Bullring this week I came across a rather peculiar site which I wasn’t expecting….Christmas cards!

With the British summer well and truly done and dusted it seems the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s high streets just can’t wait to get into the festive season.

No sooner are the schools back to school that selection boxes and gift ideas are being pushed by the nations retailers. Is it me or the preparations for Christmas getting earlier and earlier?

Will there come a point when Christmas just doesn’t disappear?

My question to the general public is ‘When is it acceptable to start talking about Christmas?’.

Many of us like to leave it until the 1st December, however as people tighten their belts it seems, purchasing for the festive season seems to start earlier so as not to break the bank in December itself.

Is there an economic reason behind this? Are consumers becoming more savvy with their money and spreading the cost of Christmas or are businesses just trying further spending?

This rule doesn’t just apply to the retail world though; the hospitality industry appears to be starting Christmas preparations sooner as well.
