A £57 million scheme to bring the site of a former resort theme park back to life has been unveiled.

A hotel and conference centre, 250 holiday lodges, restaurants and a Lidl supermarket are all part of the plans.

And the ambitious proposals for the Kings Road site could create more than 350 jobs, while bringing millions of pounds per year into the local economy.

Pleasure Island theme park closed in 2016 after 23 years of business and has remained empty since.

Now proposals have been released by a consortium including Lidl and Liverpool-based leisure developer YPG to transform the area, in what would provide a major boost to Cleethorpes as the area looks to recover from the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The plans show the hotel and conference centre would have 146 bedrooms, with lodges providing further accommodation for visitors to the resort.

Other elements include the Lidl store, as well as two restaurants and two leisure units.

A petrol station and drive-thru coffee shop also form part of the proposals for the 23.5-hectare site.
