Contractors are now being sought to deliver the £4.3 million refurbishment of Hull’s Queens Gardens.

The first stage of a tender process has launched for the city centre showpiece - once a dock.

Plans from Hull City Council will see it future-proofed and made fit for purpose, with accessibility and visitor flows to be improved to allow hosting of large scale events, alongside the delivery of structural repairs through the rebuilding of retaining walls.

Bespoke pieces of public art will also be added, while biodiversity will be improved as part of the regeneration of “a much-loved open space”.

The history of the gardens will be incorporated in its design, reconnecting it with the maritime origins of the space.

Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for economic investment and regeneration, said: “The structuring of this procurement process allows us to ensure we appoint the best contractor to deliver this key, multi-million pound project for the city centre.
